City Making it Easier for Residents to Build Additions or Redevelop Properties within Established Neighbourhoods

At the January 27, 2026 City Council Meeting, Council approved an update to the Land Use Bylaw (LUB) that simplifies a section of the bylaw known as the Established Neighbourhood Overlay.

The updated LUB makes it easier for residents to develop new homes, build additions, or redevelop existing homes on their properties in established neighbourhoods, by adjusting regulations involving building height, floor area and lot coverage, while preserving the streetscape and character that make St. Albert so special.

The revised regulations are part of St. Albert’s CMHC’s Housing Accelerator Fund initiatives, and apply to Lacombe Park, Mission, the Gardens, Woodlands, Braeside, Forest Lawn, Sturgeon Heights and Akinsdale.  Residents living in these communities, who are considering redeveloping their properties, are invited to contact the City of St. Albert at development@stalbert.ca or 780-459-1654 to discuss their home addition or home renovation ideas.
