St. Albert Hires New Chief Administrative Officer

Mayor Cathy Heron, on behalf of Council, is pleased to announce that after an extensive search, William (Bill) Fletcher has been hired as the CAO (Chief Administrative Officer) for the City of St. Albert.

“We are extremely excited to welcome Bill Fletcher as our new City Manager” says Mayor Cathy Heron. “This position is key to ensuring our administration has a strong yet approachable leader to build cohesive teams ensuring we continue to provide residents with excellent services, programs and infrastructure.”

The new CAO spent 33 years in uniform in service to Canada, currently in the position of Commander of the 3rd Canadian Division. Mr. Fletcher holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and a masters of defense studies focused on government strategy and policy. His career has produced a forward-thinking, results-oriented leader with a breadth of experience in strategic and operational planning, human resources, financial and resource stewardship, and risk management in a highly complex fast-paced environment. He has excellent relationship building skills at all levels, including municipally, provincially, nationally, globally and with Indigenous communities. Mr. Fletcher is excited at the prospect of serving the City of St Albert and eager to get started.

Mr. Fletcher currently lives in St. Albert with his wife and children. Mr. Fletcher will commence his new role officially on June 13, 2022 and is quickly working to understand council priorities and is expected to connect with existing executive and leadership soon.

Council wants to express our extreme gratitude to Mr. Kerry Hilts for his service to the city as our interim Chief Administrative Officer. “Kerry stepped into the role on short notice and has led our council and the staff with dedication and integrity. He implemented an effective interim leadership approach and, through the support from many City leaders, services and priorities continued uninterrupted. We want him and all of St. Albert to know how much we appreciate all he has done.” Mr. Hilts will continue to lead in the role of Deputy CAO.
