New Items Accepted in Your Blue Bag

Beginning October 1, more items will be accepted through the City’s blue bag recycling program for all single-family homes and some multi-unit households and condo complexes that are serviced by the City or Circular Materials through their partner hauler. New items are also accepted at the Mike Mitchell Recycling Depot.

Highlights of new items accepted include:

• Flexible plastics such as chip bags, toothpaste, pet food bags and bubble wrap
• Empty aerosol containers including cooking spray, perfume, hair spray, deodorant and shaving cream
• Foam packaging like meat trays, take out containers and foam packaging 
• Paper laminates including coffee cups and ice cream containers
• Glass such as jars and bottles

These changes are part of phase two of the Government of Alberta’s Extended Producer’s Responsibility regulations that comes into effect October 1, 2026. This will make recycling easier for residents and move Alberta towards single-stream recycling diverting more waste from landfills.
