City of St. Albert Response to Provincial Relaunch Strategy Update
Premier Jason Kenney announced on June 9, 2020, that Stage 2 of Alberta’s Relaunch Strategy will begin on Friday, June 12. The Premier also announced that several measures which were originally included in Stage 3 have been moved into Stage 2. This includes indoor recreation, fitness and sports facilities, including gyms and arenas, as well as pools for leisure swimming.
The City will be reviewing the new Government of Alberta guidance documents in detail to better understand how this impacts City recreational and cultural facilities. We will be providing further information as soon as it is available on our website at stalbert.ca/covid19.
St. Albertans are reminded that opening facilities to public use will take time and, depending on provincial guidelines and restrictions, facilities may not be able to accommodate the same level of use as they did prior to the pandemic.
Opening City facilities to public use will be based on provincial guidelines and approvals, community demand, and facility readiness. Municipal resources and financial viability will also be assessed.
The City of St. Albert’s priority continues to be the health, safety and well-being of our residents, staff and visitors. We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work through these new requirements to ensure that when we open our facilities to public use, we can do so in a safe and orderly manner.
A reminder that many outdoor recreation assets remain open at this time, including playgrounds, sports fields for spontaneous use, and the City’s parks and trails system.
