COVID-19 Recovery Task Force Meeting Update
Meeting held on June 23, 2021
Members of the COVID-19 Recovery Task Force met virtually on June 23, 2021 to discuss how the committee will support St. Albert’s economic and social recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Recovery Task Force began their review of the draft Final Report that they will be presenting to Council in August. The Final Report will outline the work done by the Task Force throughout their tenure and provide a list of recommendations to City Council for how to move from an economic and social response to COVID-19 to recovery from the pandemic.
“The Final Report will be taken into consideration as part of the new City Council’s strategic plan development, which will inform administration’s tactical and master plans going forward,” says Mayor Cathy Heron. “We hope the learnings and recommendations in the Final Report provide value and guidance to businesses and social profits as they navigate through recovery.”
Discussions also took place regarding the possibility of hosting a community resiliency event. City staff are currently in the process of planning for various public events later in the summer, which could align with several recommendations within the final report. Consideration was also given to ways the City can acknowledge the grief and loss that have come along with the pandemic for many, as well.
Members of the Recovery Task Force continue to emphasize their support of the vaccination efforts currently underway in the Province of Alberta. They call on eligible St. Albertans to register to get vaccinated as soon as they are able and commend those who have already done so.
The Recovery Task Force is a 10-member committee, which includes a cross-section of business and community leaders, who will make recommendations to Council.
The next Recovery Task Force meeting is scheduled to take place on July 30, 2021 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
