COVID-19 Recovery Task Force Meeting Update
Meeting held on March 25, 2021
Members of the COVID-19 Recovery Task Force met virtually on March 24, 2021 to discuss how the committee will support St. Albert’s economic and social recovery from theCOVID-19 pandemic.
Throughout March, the Recovery Task Force held stakeholder engagement sessions to better understand the various experiences felt during the pandemic, and to receive feedback on the Interim Report. At the meeting, the Task Force discussed these recent sessions where they met with the Chamber of Commerce, non-profit organizations, and other committees of Council. Stakeholder feedback will provide insight to determine if changes are required to the Interim Report presented to Council in December of 2020.
Mayor Heron says, "I am excited with the recommendation from the Recovery Task Force yesterday regarding Business Resiliency Programs." She adds, "Although the item will still need to be approved by Council, these initiatives can provide immediate assistance to help local businesses build a stronger online presence and be more resilient in the long-term."
The Recovery Task Force passed a motion for a business resiliency program that will be brought forward to Council in April. The Task Force will recommend that a business resiliency program be established and funded through the previously approved COVID-19 Supports to a maximum of $100,000 and that Administration use these funds to administer marketing/digital transformation initiatives to a maximum of $1,000 per eligible St. Albert business.
The Recovery Task Force thanks all stakeholders to date that have participated in engagement sessions.
The Recovery Task Force is a 10-member committee, which includes a cross-section of business and community leaders, who will make recommendations to Council.
The next Recovery Task Force meeting is scheduled to take place on April 21, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
