COVID-19 Recovery Task Force Meeting Update
Meeting held on May 26, 2021
Members of the COVID-19 Recovery Task Force met virtually on May 26, 2021 to discuss how the committee will support St. Albert’s economic and social recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Recovery Task Force received an update about the City’s initiative, Planning Forward: Setting the Context, where Administration has been connecting with groups to hear feedback through structured engagement sessions about innovative revenue-generating opportunities for St. Albert.
Trevor Duley, Manager of Government Relations with the City of St. Albert, presented a Jurisdictional Scan that compared and contrasted COVID-19 recovery plans from various municipalities across Alberta and Canada to inform the Task Force’s recommendations to Council later this year.
The group participated in an open discussion around potential Calls to Action that will be presented in the Task Force’s Final Report, to be brought to Council in August 2021. Topics that were touched upon include how residents and the community can be engaged in the collective effort of supporting an expedited, inclusive, and effective recovery, acknowledging grief and loss post-pandemic, and celebrating the community’s sustained resiliency.
“St. Albertans have continually shown their resiliency through the pandemic, and commitment to help one another. Through the efforts of all St. Albertans and volunteers like those on the Recovery Task Force, we are well-positioned to continue to succeed as a community post-pandemic,” says Mayor Cathy Heron.
Members of the Recovery Task Force continue to emphasize their support of the vaccination efforts currently underway in the Province of Alberta. They call on eligible St. Albertans to register to get vaccinated as soon as they are able and commend those who have already done so.
The Recovery Task Force is a 10-member committee, which includes a cross-section of business and community leaders, who will make recommendations to Council.
The next Recovery Task Force meeting is scheduled to take place on June 23, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
