City of St. Albert and Sturgeon County Hold Meeting of Joint Intermunicipal Affairs Committee (IAC)
Meeting held February 24
The City of St. Albert and Sturgeon County’s joint Intermunicipal Affairs Committee (IAC), consisting of all members of both municipal Councils, held a regularly scheduled meeting on February 24, 2021 to discuss matters of mutual interest.
At the meeting, the IAC received an update on the status of the Annexation and of the Intermunicipal Recreation Agreement negotiations between the County and the City. The IAC also approved a motion to dissolve the Joint Opportunities Task Force (JOTF). In lieu of the JOTF, the IAC decided to conduct its strategic intermunicipal discussions within the structure of the IAC itself, as well as through regular mayoral and chief administrative officer reviews. The IAC also discussed potential revisions to the IAC Bylaw to improve its effectiveness. The draft revised Bylaw is scheduled to come back in June.
“Sturgeon County and the City of St. Albert have many joint initiatives underway and this Committee is an important part of maintaining the positive and progressive working relationship our municipalities enjoy,” says Sturgeon County Mayor Alanna Hnatiw.
“The IAC has helped our two municipalities maintain a positive working relationship, which has increased our understanding and helped us reach agreements on a variety of topics,” says Mayor Cathy Heron.
The next IAC meeting is scheduled to take place on June 30, 2021.
