St. Albert and Sturgeon County Meeting of Recreation Intermunicipal Collaboration

The City of St. Albert and Sturgeon County held a meeting for the Intermunicipal Collaboration Framework (ICF)Task Force on June 28, 2019.

The Task Force is intended to identify shared recreational opportunities and challenges for the two municipalities. The group will also develop mechanisms to address these opportunities and challenges in a collaborative manner.

St. Albert and Sturgeon County each identify recreation as a key component of their municipal Master Plans. Both communities are looking to optimize the delivery of these vital services. The Recreation ICF presents an important opportunity to explore collaborative opportunities for planning and service delivery.

At this meeting, the Task Force continued to explore ways in which both municipalities can move forward on exciting projects that will allow their citizens to enjoy cross-boundary recreational opportunities.

A Gap Analysis and Environmental Scan have been completed and accepted as information. The Gap Analysis looked at current and future recreation demands between the two municipalities. The Environmental Scan reviewed several inter-municipal partnerships already in place in other parts of the province. The two reports identified several partnership models and best practices and the Task Force is now deciding on the best ways to move forward within the City of St. Albert and Sturgeon County context and will begin crafting the ICF in the weeks ahead.

The Task Force meets next on August 2, 2019.
