St. Albert Transit Launches On-Demand Service
Pilot will launch on July 26, 2020
The City of St. Albert and St. Albert Transit will be launching an On-Demand bus service on July 26, 2020 for a one-year pilot project. The On-Demand service will be replacing the current Dial-A-Bus service on weekday evenings, Saturday evenings, Sundays and statutory holidays. Instead of calling the Dial-A-Bus drivers, riders can now download the On-Demand app to book their trips. The On-Demand service is for local transit routes only.
St. Albert Transit will be the first mid-sized transit system outside of Ontario to implement the On-Demand service during low-travel periods. Administration will monitor the success of the pilot to determine the use of the service during other off-peak times such as early mornings on Saturday and midday throughout the week.
The On-Demand app will improve services for riders by allowing them to book in advance, as well as book multiple riders at one time. Estimated arrival times are also displayed on the app with current information and the ability to cancel rides. The app is available to download through Apple and Android stores. For further information and detailed instructions on how to download the On-Demand app, visit stalbert.ca/transit.
