Update on Temporary Closure of Portion of Red Willow Trail

Update: Due to a regional wastewater pipeline break near the corner of Sir Winston Churchill Avenue and Kingswood Drive on June 1, some wastewater was released into the Sturgeon River. Residents are asked to stay away from the Sturgeon River until Alberta Health Services has completed its water testing. If residents have any health concerns regarding the situation, they are asked to call Health Link at 811.

Crews are working on behalf of Arrow Utilities to repair the wastewater pipe. Due to the repair work underway, a portion of the Red Willow Trail system is temporarily closed along the Kingswood Park Day Loop. The trail is closed from near the Botanic Park through to the pathways leading to the Kingswood Day Park entrance.

Snow fencing has been placed around the perimeter of the work site, which is not open to the public. Please see the updated map below for the exclusion zone, which the public is not permitted to enter.

For the Kingswood Park Disc Golf Course, several holes are not operational and the Kingswood Boat Dock also remains closed.

Editor's Note: Italicized text was updated at 3:15 p.m. on June 2, 2026: The Kingswood Park Day Use Building (including the bathroom facilities) has re-opened and the parking lot at Kingswood Park remains open.

The City will provide more updates on the temporary trail, disc golf and boat dock closures as the repairs progress.
