Licence Exemptions
Provincial legislation and regulations allow for certain professions, trades and businesses to be exempt from municipal licensing fees. Businesses that fall under this exemption policy are still required to submit an application for a Business Licence, but will not be required to pay any licensing fees.
Further information regarding which trades and professions can qualify for exemptions can be found in the following document:
Business Licence applicants seeking an exemption from the licensing fee are required to demonstrate proof of exemption.
When applying for a licence, you will be asked during the online application to attach your exemption. However, you can also email it to Business Licensing.

Not-for-Profit Organizations
A Not-for-Profit organization wishing to be exempted from the requirements of a licence fee can apply to the Licence Inspector for such exemption.
Not-for-Profit Organizations must submit the appropriate Business Licence Application form in addition to providing the License Inspector with a copy of their Provincial Registration Certificate under the Alberta Companies Act or Societies Act, or the Canada Corporations Act.
