Standard General Inc. Builds Home in St. Albert

Standard General Inc. has had many growth opportunities since first moving to St. Albert in 1970. However, there’s no place quite like home and the company has made the decision to stay in the Botanical Arts City as it continues to grow.

“We had looked at actually moving from St. Albert, but it was a company decision that we wanted to stay in St. Albert because this is where we started, and this is where we are going to continue,” says Curtis Martin, General Manager of Standard General. “We now have 440 employees and a lot of them call St. Albert home base.”

Watch the video below to discover how Standard General has established itself ‘right here in St. Albert.’

Standard General builds major public roadways, private developments, industrial construction projects and has helped build road construction within many St. Albert neighbourhoods.

“We have been part of a team building neighborhoods like Oakmont, Erin Ridge, Erin Ridge North, North Ridge, Riverside, Jensen Lakes, I can go on and on,” says Volodymur Burlak, Construction Manager with Standard General.

It’s always been a great experience working with the construction department in the City of St. Albert.”

Residents may have heard the familiar whistle of Standard General trains passing through the city which helps to reduce traffic on highways and the company’s carbon footprint as it operates three manufacturing facilities out of Acheson, Edmonton and Leduc. Gravel is harvested from the Windfall Gravel Pit near Whitecourt and rail traffic is used to transport gravel to the Acheson transload facility for distribution to Standard General’s various plants and depots throughout the Greater Edmonton Region.

“We supply a variety of different products whether it’s recycled concrete and asphalt products, to version materials that are used for ready mix, hot mix asphalt as well as granular based production. There’s not many operations that do what we do,” adds Andrey Niklevich, Manufacturing Manager with Standard General.

There is room to grow for businesses already located in St. Albert and those looking to expand somewhere new with a variety of commercial and retail space for lease or purchase.
