Founders’ Walk Phase 3
About the Project
The City is now in the process of completing elements of this final phase of Founders’ Walk. Phase III will close the loop by connecting the Grain Elevator Park to the Perron Street bridge along existing trails on both the north and south banks of the Sturgeon River. Interpretive nodes will be installed at the Children’s Bridge and St. Albert Place. The Children’s Bridge will also feature programmable LED lighting in a range of colours.
Background
Founders’ Walk Phases 1 and 2 link many downtown landmarks and attractions, including the Community Recognition Garden, Mission Hill, Father Lacombe Chapel and Heritage Park.
Phase 3 will feature a series of places along the existing trails that will further develop this popular walk that connects the Red Willow Trail system, Lions Park, Millennium Park and St. Albert Place and showcases the significant role the Sturgeon River played in St. Albert’s history.
The Sturgeon River is the key physical connector of St. Albert’s past, present and future. It provides a link to the natural environment through the downtown, is a link to the community’s history, and provides the opportunity for future passive and active activities.
