About The Project

The Giroux Road Watermain Upgrade and Road Resurfacing Project will be completed in two components and by two different Prime Contractors in 2024. Much of this work will eventually be completed concurrently, during the peak summer period. View phasing map

Components of this project are outlined below:

Component 1: Storm Catch Basin Utility Improvements and Concrete Rehabilitation (Lafarge)

Starting in late spring 2024, the City will prioritize improvements for the replacement of select storm catch basin frame and covers, as well as concrete spot repairs, between east of Bellerose Composite High School to St. Albert Trail.

Component 2: Installation of New Watermain and Asphalt Resurfacing (Streamline Construction Co. Ltd.)

The City has identified the need to install a new segment of a 300-millimetre diameter watermain along Giroux Road., spanning approximately 500 metres. This will allow for increased water flow, servicing and supporting Bellerose Composite High School. The proposed location of this new infrastructure is between Hogan Road and south of Bellerose Composite High School. Once all underground infrastructure has been installed and backfilled, road surface improvements including a milling and repaving program will take place spanning between Hogan Road to St. Albert Trail.

Work is anticipated to begin in the spring of 2024.

Work to include:

Storm sewer catch basin (frame and cover) replacements
Concrete rehabilitation (concrete curb/gutter, sidewalks, curb ramps)
Landscaping
Milling of existing roadway and resurfacing
Watermain construction

Potential Construction Impacts

Select areas of concrete sidewalks and curb ramps will be temporarily closed for pedestrians and other active users while the restoration of the asphalt roadway takes place.
Estimated two-month lane closure between Hogan Road and south of Bellerose Composite High School to support the installation of the new watermain which requires an excavation.

Timeline

Spring 2024 - Utility and concrete removal and replacement
Late spring/early summer 2024 to fall 2024 - watermain installation and asphalt resurfacing
