Sidewalk Trip Hazards

Within St. Albert, a trip hazard reflects any crack or joint in a concrete walkway with a vertical change of 15 millimetres or greater.

In 2020, the City assessed sidewalk infrastructure to identify conditions and locations of trip hazards and developed a work plan to remove all recorded locations meeting the criteria of a “trip hazard” within a three-year period from 2021 to 2024. To date, 9600 trip hazard removals have taken place across the city.

In 2025 and 2026, work is planned to finalize the Trip Hazard program with a focus on the southeast corner of St. Albert. This will complete an additional 3500 trip locations identified in 2020.
