Twilight Lift Station
About the Project
The Twilight Lift Station, constructed more than 30 years ago, currently serves the City’s downtown, Akinsdale, Campbell Park, Braeside, Forest Lawn, and Sturgeon Heights neighborhoods. Assessments completed under the 2021 Utility Master Plan (UMP) and subsequent flow studies identified that the existing station is undersized for wet weather flows and nearing the end of its useful life. In 2022, flow monitoring confirmed that the facility requires upsizing of pumps and replacement of the wet well. In 2023, further analysis recommended a new wet well design capacity with pumps and electrical upgrades to accommodate the 25-year horizon.
The project involves the installation of a new package lift station wet well, abandonment and decommissioning of the existing wet well, replacement of the existing 250 mm sanitary sewer crossing with a 375 mm sewer and casing, and associated civil, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and structural works. The existing control building will be retained and upgraded, while a new generator and electrical service will be installed. The project is essential to maintain reliable sanitary servicing for the downtown and southeast catchments of the City, and to address capacity deficiencies during wet weather events.
