Speed Limits
Drive Aware. Drive with Care.
The St. Albert Transportation Safety Plan (2018 to 2025) aligns with Vision Zero - a long-term traffic safety goal focused on eliminating traffic fatalities and reducing injuries on St. Albert roadways.
Speed is a critical component of roadway safety and Vision Zero. In a vehicle-pedestrian collision, the pedestrian has a 70% chance of surviving when struck by a vehicle that is travelling at 40 km/h. At a vehicle speed of 50 km/h, the survival rate drops to 15%, and continues to drop as vehicle speeds increase.
