
Construction Debris
In April 2026, City Council added new regulations to the Community Standards Bylaw to ensure our city stays clean and safe. The City of St. Albert is working with builders, developers and residents to ensure debris and litter are properly contained and disposed of on construction sites. We all share the responsibility of keeping our city beautiful.
Key changes to the Community Standards Bylaw include that on construction sites:
- All outdoor construction debris must be placed in a covered container designed to hold waste materials until it is collected and disposed.
- Waste materials must be always covered in a container except during loading and unloading.
- All construction materials including but not limited to lumber, trusses, drywall and metal, must be stored in an orderly and organized manner within property lines.
Not adhering to the Community Standards Bylaw can result in one or more of the following:
- $1000 fine for each day the offence continues.
- Issuance of a summons to court with the potential for increased fines on conviction up to $10,000.
- Issuance of Municipal Government Act Orders mandating specific actions to remedy any contraventions.
- Suspension of a business license pursuant to the Business License Bylaw for failing to adhere to a Municipal Bylaw.
