Initiative #6: Parking Regulation Study (Completed)

Update: On January 27, 2026, City Council approved an amended version of proposed Bylaw 2/2026. This means that the proposed Land Use Bylaw amendments associated with Housing Accelerator Fund “Initiative #2” (regarding the Established Neighbourhood Overlay) were approved, while those associated with Housing Accelerator Fund “Initiative #6” (regarding minimum parking supply regulations) were not. This initiative is focused on reviewing residential parking supply regulations in St. Albert to make sure they meet community needs and support more housing options.

The goal of this initiative is to reduce regulatory barriers, support a wider range of housing options, and help keep housing more affordable in the City of St. Albert. As part of this work, the team has studied how parking is actually used during peak times in larger-scale residential developments to better “right-size” the Land Use Bylaw’s future parking supply regulations.
