Urban Agriculture Plan
Administration has completed the creation of an Urban Agriculture Plan that is specific to our community’s goals and values. The goal of this Plan is to lay out priorities for the promotion and development of urban agriculture within St. Albert, and how to bring that vision to life. The document is now complete, and has been named “Nourish”, to align with both the content and the City’s Botanical Arts theme.
What is Urban Agriculture?
Urban agriculture refers to the practice of cultivating and producing food within an urban area. Examples of urban agriculture include:
- growing fruits, herbs, and vegetables
- urban farming
- roof-top gardens
- backyard hens, beekeeping
- community gardens
- local processing and value-add production
Project Background
This project was initiated in response to the Edmonton Metropolitan Region Board’s Regional Agriculture Master Plan (RAMP) requirement for urban member municipalities to prepare an Urban Agriculture Plan. During the development of the document, the RAMP requirement was rescinded. However, Administration proceeded with the project due to community interest and to support direction in Flourish.Related Pages
