St. Albert’s Smart City Master Plan
To move forward in a coordinated manner, St. Albert developed an integrated and visionary strategy aligned to its current situation and the demands of our technological and knowledge-based society. A Steering Committee of local elected officials and residents came together to prepare a Smart City Master Plan, which serves as a roadmap that St. Albert can follow as it evolves into the 21st century. St. Albert is a community that recognizes the value in addressing its challenges through innovation and collaboration, and by applying new technologies and data sources for public benefit. This is also the essence of how the community defines itself as a Smart City.
Master Plan Objectives
The Master Plan sets out how the community can grow as a Smart City – a place that fosters innovation and collaboration, applies new technologies and data, generates municipal efficiencies, improves service delivery, and supports economic growth.
The overall outcomes of the Smart City Master Plan are to:
- improve local program and service delivery, quality of life, and infrastructure / asset management;
- support economic development efforts to grow existing business and attract new investment; and
- identify opportunities for greater organizational efficiencies over time.
The Master Plan highlights 65 initiatives within 29 broad strategies, each prioritized based on their impact on the key outcomes above. These strategies will enable St. Albert to grow as a city where technology fuels opportunity, inclusion, engagement, and innovation.
It is important to note that this Master Plan is an enabler for many of the community's goals and priorities, and a lens through which we can view the future. Detailed strategies are identified within the Master Plan, including prioritized investments, partnerships, targets / benchmarks, and other tactics that are necessary to realize long term success.
