The City of St. Albert is requesting proposals from qualified, licensed and professional consulting firms to provide Prime Consulting Services for the design and construction of Fire Hall #1.
St. Albert Fire Hall #1 at 18 Sir Winston Churchill Avenue, was originally constructed in 1962 and renovated in 1977, 1987 and 2011. These renovations included the expansion of the administrative and operational spaces such as apparatus bays, and also the upgrades of the residential areas including kitchen and dormitory. While still serviceable from a building systems’ perspective, the current facility is still experiencing a significant spatial shortfall and many of the building components have reached the end of their serviceable life. There are also significant issues with the current facility, including height of the vehicle bays that cannot accommodate the newer fire engines and the aerial apparatus.
In 2017, the consulting firm of ACI Architects was contracted to conduct a Feasibility Study. The study explored three options for the Fire Hall #1 reconstruction; with the architectural group recommending Option #3, constructing a new fire hall on available City owned land located at 20 Gave Avenue. This would achieve a full build-out to meet the required space increase for growth to 2050. The study also provided a preliminary functional program and space analysis for a new fire hall. A copy of this study is provided in Schedule C.
On April 16, 2018, St. Albert City Council approved the recommendation by Administration to move forward with design of a new Fire Hall #1 on the 20 Gate Avenue site.
