What's Happening

Join communications specialist Shawna Randolph for an engaging three-hour media session designed specifically for arts organizations looking to strengthen their storytelling, audience engagement and relationships with the news media.

Learn how to effectively share your organization’s "good news" through your own communication channels, rather than relying solely on traditional media coverage.

Participants will explore effective storytelling techniques and review real-world case studies and examples to help strengthen their own communications strategies.

A light supper will be served during the session, providing an opportunity for participants to connect, recharge and continue the conversation.

The session will also focus on building positive, productive relationships with members of the news media. Participants will gain insight into how journalists and media outlets operate, including their culture, deadlines, pressures and priorities.

Topics will include:

  • Becoming a more effective organizational storyteller
  • Sharing “good news” directly with your audiences
  • Strengthening website and social media engagement
  • Using case studies and real-world examples to improve communications
  • Building positive relationships with members of the news media
  • Developing compelling story ideas and effective media pitches
  • Understanding the media landscape, including deadlines, pressures, priorities and newsroom culture
  • Identifying what makes a story, and a pitch, more likely to get noticed
