What's Happening
Soulfire
Soulfire is a mental health and wellness group for young people in grades 4 to 9.
Through facilitated workshops, participants get to explore what matters to them through meaningful conversations and unique activities.
Check us out the third Wednesday of each month, 4 to 5 p.m. at the St. Albert Seniors Association, 7 Tache Street.
The Soulfire program is facilitator-led and brings in experts from the community to provide educational workshops that are accessible and enjoyable, encouraging participants to explore their wellbeing in a supportive community setting.
Tap into ways you can find deeper connections, learn about your own mental health, and have fun doing it!
Soulfire workshops are free to attend! Drop in; no registration required.
2026 Workshops

September 16: Pot Decorating, Succulent Planting and Emotional Regulation
Even though we all look different, one thing we all have in common is this: we all get dysregulated. In this lesson, we learn why we sometimes “flip our lid” — and what can help us come back to ourselves. Think about how a crying baby, would you just tell them to “calm down?” When we grow up it doesn’t change, even for adults! We don’t like to be told to calm down we like to be shown. Each student will decorate a pot that will contain a succulent.

October 21: Feelings Are Messy (and That’s Okay!)
Nobody is happy all the time — and that’s not the goal. What matters is learning how to feel all the feelings, recognize them in your body, and express them in healthy ways. We’ll use the emotion wheel, play the “Stuff Happens” game, and name tricky emotion combos. Each participant will create an emotions bracelet with colours to remind themselves to think about what they are feeling and that all feelings are valid.
november
November 18: Connection and Empowerment with Kim Brochu
Guest instructor Kim Brochu will teach us mindful movements to help us connect our mind and body.

December 16: Cookie Decorating and Doing Things for Others - A Spirit of Service
Turning your me into we is good for your mental health. When we are struggling, it’s easy for our brains to get stuck in a loop of focusing on your own worries, mistakes, or problems. Doing something kind can interrupt the loop and shift our attention outward
JANUARY
January 20: Handling Tricky Friendships: Be Kind and Don’t Accept Nonsense (In That Order)
When you're trying to make and keep friends, kindness is a great strategy but that doesn’t mean you need to put up with things that feel wrong, unfair or hurtful. Real kindness includes standing up for yourself and others. At this Soulfire, we will play some games all about friendship and make Boundary Bracelets to wear as a reminder to be kind to yourself.
FEBRUARY
February 17: Painting with Kathleen
Using watercolours in a way completely outside the box- no rules, no right way, no focus on skills. The goal is to let go. When you let go of being perfect, let go of getting it “right” your nervous system can relax. Take a break from thinking about the past or worrying about the future, just be you right now!
MARCH
March 17: Anxiety Will Hate This Journal!
Anxiety hates a plan. It thrives on uncertainty, so when you name your feelings, make a plan or draw your worries, you take away its power and start changing your fears into something you can handle. Come make a beautiful journal I hope you will love….but anxiety will hate!

April 21: Getting Out of Our Comfort Zones
Stepping out of your comfort zone is an act of bravery and vulnerability-trying something new, silly or even a little scary while trusting you are safe. You will opportunity to choose a dare, sing a karaoke or taste a jellybean that you have no idea what flavour it turns out to be! Each time you stretch yourself your brain learns “I can do hard things!” which strengthens your mental health. Like always, you never have to do anything you don’t want to, bravery grows by choice, not by pressure.

May 19: Nature Walk with Elder Tom
We will walk outside with our wonderful guest Elder Tom and explore the natural world in a fun and exciting way. We will learn that healing isn’t just one thing- it comes from many small, interconnected experiences. If we learn and see how the plants and animals interact with each other maybe we can learn life-changing lessons on how we want to live in our human world in a calmer, happier way.
june
June 16: BBQ Year-End Party!
We will play the games we played all year at Soulfire, but make your parents participate! They can see more about what you learned and even learn something new themselves! Related Pages
