Event Criteria

How calendar submissions are evaluated

The City of St. Albert has developed criteria for evaluating the appropriateness of proposed events. Please carefully review the following requirements before preparing a submission.

Events must be:

  1. Inclusive: The event must be open to all public members and not discriminate on any grounds except for age, but only where that limitation is reasonable (e.g. a youth-focused event or one that may serve alcohol). Events must not promote hatred or derision of any group.
  2. Locally relevant: Your event must either occur within St. Albert's municipal boundaries or, if a virtual event, have a specific connection to the St. Albert community.
  3. Time-specific: The event must have a start date, start time and end date.
  4. Official: The event must be planned with a clear purpose and description of its activities, have a viable venue or service provider for its facilitation, and be organized by an identifiable group or entity.
  5. Notable: For sports leagues, clubs, or religious organizations that gather regularly, the event should be something more singular such as registrations, open houses, fundraisers or exhibitions.
  6. No cost (with some exceptions): Events charging for admission or participation must be cultural events, sporting events, or trade shows with perceivable tourism value. Food trucks will not be considered an event unless several gather at the same location. Donation-based events are permitted, but organizers must disclose any costs or donation requirements in the submission.
  7. Non-commercial: Retail business openings, presentations, sales events, or paid training seminars for inclusion, except for those identified by criteria #6 will not be considered.

For Ongoing or Repeating Events

Events spanning several days or weeks that meet the criteria may be simplified to prevent cluttering the calendar — for example, converting a four-week museum exhibition to opening and closing night entries rather than continuously listing it for 28 days.
