Amplify's Artists Alley: Call for Visual Artists

Application deadline: October 14, 2024 at 11:59 p.m.

Amplify's Artist Alley: Folklore Edition

Amplify is hosting its second annual winter art exhibition, in order to highlight the work of emerging visual artists from St. Albert and area. This exhibit will mix a professional experience with the electric atmosphere of Amplify to showcase the best young artists in our City. New this year, we are adding a winter market and art sale on Saturday, November 23 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m, as well as an inspiring mix of introductory visual art workshops. If you like visual art, this event will be right up your alley!

This form is speicifically for the art exhibiton. Apply to be a vendor for the market here or you can find for more general event information here.

Eligibility for Art Exhibition: Submissions will be accepted from artists Grade seven to age 21 who live in St. Albert and the surrounding area (Morinville, Sturgeon County, Edmonton, Parkland County etc.). The Amplify  Advisory Committee encourages all young artists to submit—please take this opportunity to show off your art!

We do need to mention that the committee reserves the right to decline submissions deemed inappropriate for Amplify. Also if the number of submissions overwhelms the capacity of the exhibition space, the Amplify Advisory Committee will then make selections based on artistic excellence and originality. However, Amplify is a celebration of young artists and we do promise to fit in as many pieces as we can!

Artists will be given the opportunity to put their artwork up for sale, if so desired.

Submission Materials: Submissions must be original; however, collaboration between multiple artists is permitted. 2D and 3D art, including, paintings, illustrations, photography and sculpture will be considered (please see ‘limitations’ for size requirements). Please...

  • Ensure that all 2D art is ready to hang (hanging mechanisms securely in place)
  • Ensure that all 3D art is stable and secure (ie. Your sculpture won’t fall apart on us!)
  • No frames. We ask you use 3” mats to mount works done on paper or photographs. Mats may be pined during the exhibit (aka, we may place tiny little holes in the mats)
  • Please do not mat dry mounted or foam core-backed work
  • If submitting work on canvas board or illustration board, ensure that it rests flat to the wall
  • Please label all submitted materials with the title of the work, your name and your contact information

Limitations: In order to fit our walls, any two-dimensional artwork entries must not exceed 36” wide x 48” tall, including mat. Three-dimensional work must be submitted with the dimensions, to help the committee determine if the piece can be safely exhibited. All accepted artwork must remain on view for the duration of the exhibition. Applications are limited to three entries per artist. In order to submit multiple works, please complete the application form anew for each peice. Amplify reserves the right to photograph works in the exhibition and use images of all included works for promotional purposes and in future publications.

Theme: We will be accepting art work based on the theme of "folklore." Artists are encouraged to interpret the theme of "folklore" how they'd like.
