Call For Filmmakers
Application Deadline: June 21, 2026 at 11:59 p.m.
This is your call to create this summer! Amplify is looking for aspiring filmmakers, Grade 7 to age 21, to participate in our emerging artist film festival on Monday, November 9, 2026 at the Arden Theater. No finished piece required—just the spark. Interested in attending the event? Learn more about the Film Festival here.
Two ways to get involved
- Create your own film: pitch anything from a video art piece to animation to a mini-documentary to a narrative! Then use the summer to make your idea a reality.
- Direct a music video: get matched with a local musician or poet to create something together with Amplify’s help and guidence.
Express your interest by June 21, 2026. The film does not need to be completed—you're just reserving your spot in the film festival and letting us know you want to make in time to premiere the work in November. (However, if you do have a film made that's looking for a screen, feel free to submit that work as well.)
Whether it’s a music video, experimental visual art or a short narrative, we want to feature your film at our Film Festival! It doesn’t matter if you’re experienced or just starting out, or if you use a cell phone or a video camera to capture your footage, this is your chance to share your vibrant visuals with the community.
This event is open to St. Albert and area videographers and filmmakers (Edmonton, Sturgeon County, Spruce Grove, etc.) Grade 7 to age 21.
film Guidelines:
- Videos cannot be longer than 10 minutes.
- Works must be suitable for General Audiences and public viewing.
- All genres are accepted, including live action, documentary, creative non-fiction, animation and experimental.
- No illegal activities, including actions like trespassing and jay-walking, can be performed during the filming of your piece. If it looks like an illegal activity took place in order to film your video, we will not be able to present it.
- You must be between Grade seven and age 21 to submit.
How Do I Sign Up?
Like we said above, there are two was to get involved. Let's get into those details!
- Create Your Own Film: whether you already have the film “in the can” or you will use the summer to film the project, select “Create You Own Film” if you have an idea for a video-based project you’d like to share on the big screen at our Film Festival. This will let us know you have an original work you'd like to share with us and reserve your spot in the Film Festival.
- Direct a Music or Poetry Video: Interested in filmmaking, but don’t know where to start? Select “Direct a Music or Poetry Video” to get matched with a subject and work together to create a film under the guidance of a professional videographer. There are limited spots available, so we'll ask you to answer a few questions about your artistic journey.
Again, you don’t have to have a video ready to go! All you have to do *now* is sign up with your contact information, so we know who will be submitting a video. Then you have from the moment you sign up to October 25th, 2026 to film and edit your piece. Alternatively, feel free to sign up with a work you’re already created.
All videos must be submitted for viewing and scheduling by October 25, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Late submissions will not be accepted.
Please note, once you submit you will recieve an automated confirmation. Our Amplify coordinator, Kathleen Bell (kbell@stalbert.ca) will get in touch shortly after the June 21st deadline with more information. So if you don't hear from her immediately, don't worry--she will reach out after the deadline.
