COUNTRY / FOLK / ROOTS
The Wardens aren’t a country band. According to the Banff-based trio, they are more of a backcountry band – with some folk, roots and a hint of bluegrass, as well as tight vocal harmonies and rich storytelling. Their 2017 album, Sleeping Buffalo, tells of their experiences as national park wardens and relays tales, sometimes harrowing, of what happens when humanity and nature rub up close.
Scott Ward (guitar), Bradley Bischoff (guitar) and Ray Schmidt (bass/mandolin) feel a deep connection to the land, one of Canada’s most prized landscapes, that they’ve patrolled on foot and horseback for over 60 combined years as communicated through their music. The trio has performed across Western Canada, as well as shared the stage with other talented artists such as Blue Rodeo and Paul Brandt.
