VC2 Cello Duo
Thursday, March 12, 2020
Begins at 2:00pm
St. Albert Community Hall (17 Perron Street)
Supported by Bryan and Linda Reed
For most, the name Beethoven conjures a great symphonic work, piano sonata, or even a choral symphony – but is there a connection with the cello? Indeed, Beethoven’s five sonatas are at the core of the cello repertoire and serve as a springboard for the Toronto-based innovative cello duo, VC2. Their program, Beethoven’s Cellists, provides a snapshot of the cello repertoire – historic and new compositions – with ties to the greater composer.
To this end, VC2’s Bryan Holt and Amahl Arulanandam introduce their own arrangements of works by Beethoven, including his cello colleagues Duport, Kraft and Romberg. Spanning genres with jazz and contemporary influences, as well as hints of rock, VC2’s program showcases the diverse future of virtuosic cello-fueled music that continues to captivate audiences across the country.
This performance is made possible by the generous support of the Canada Council of the Arts, Alberta Foundation for the Arts, Arts Touring Alliance of Alberta and Prairie Debut.
