Carol Watamaniuk - 2020

2020 Lifetime Achievement in the Arts Recipient

The extensive cultural programming St. Albert residents enjoy today is largely due to Carol Watamaniuk’s initiatives and unwavering passion for the arts over the span of nearly 52 years. From politics to her personal endeavours as an artist, she has made significant and lasting contributions to the community.

Serving as not only the City of St. Albert’s first cultural director, but also a city councillor for 12 years, Carol is considered to be the City’s most influential arts advocate. She initiated the first municipal cultural department in Western Canada, as well as the St. Albert Children’s Theatre program, Art Gallery of St. Albert, children’s visual arts education programs in conjunction with area schools, purchase of the beloved Steinhauer sculptures at St. Albert Place, and The Arden Theatre. Carol also initiated and personally raised over $100,000 for St. Albert’s Art in Public Places program.

Now a professional mixed-media jewelry designer and president of the Visual Arts Studio Association (VASA) in St. Albert, Carol truly sees art in every aspect of life.
