About the Festival

Wonder and awe are essential to a passionate life – moments, big or small, that make us say “WHOA”! For nearly 40 years, the International Children’s Festival of the Arts has transported kids to another world and provided them with countless awe-inspiring experiences. Through world-class programming in music, dance and theatre as well as literary, visual and circus arts, we awaken a child’s innate sense of wonder and excitement, as we help them to explore what’s possible. Kids don’t carry judgements of why things are so, but rather they sit in awe of the magic of life as viewed through a lens of innocence and curiosity.

In addition to a plethora of diverse Feature Performances and hands-on Workshops that connect to curriculum and provide equal access for all participants, we invite you to visit Dodecalis Luminarium – our 2020 Festival Feature. Designed by Britain’s Architects of Air, this transformative experience stimulates all the senses, including wonder!

A staple event in the Alberta Capital Region, the International Children’s Festival of the Arts remains one of the largest and longest running of its kind in North America. This year marks the 39th year for the Festival in Northern Alberta and the 26th year it has been hosted in St. Albert.

feathersWe would like to honour and acknowledge that we are on traditional land, within the Treaty 6 Territory, and the homeland of the Métis people in Alberta. We acknowledge all, recognized and unrecognized, who have cared for and who continue to steward this beautiful land.
