Just a reminder that we ask all volunteers to volunteer a minimum of six hours with the Festival.Volunteer Positions Green Team Hospitality Volunteer Registration Activity Assistant Captains Looking for a lengthier commitment, where you can make a deep impact in your community and truly be immersed in the Festival experience? Then Captain is for you!
Captains oversee whole areas of the Festival—like Green Team, Heritage Trail or the Ambassador Leadership Program—helping our Volunteer Coordinator problem-solve throughout the week and keeping things running smoothly. Captains become familiar with Festival operations through an extended orientation and have the opportunity to really get to know their follow volunteers.
Captain Responsibilities:
Ensure areas of responsibility are running smoothly Liaise with staff, the public, facilitators and volunteers Ensure Team Leaders are relieved for breaks This position requires a full-time commitment during the four-day Festival This position requires an extended orientation Team Leaders Happy to take on more responsibility, while still being close to the action? Then Team Lead is for you!
Team Leaders oversee individual activity tents, greeting teachers and welcoming their classes into the activity. They also supervise their fellow volunteers, making sure there are enough volunteers in the tent for the activity to run smoothly and that every volunteer gets a lunch break.
Team Leader Responsibilities:
Ensure activities run smoothly Assist with activity setup as required Liaise with activity facilitators Check in school groups Supervise activity volunteers Report volunteer attendance and feedback This position requires a minimum commitment of one full-day shifts during the four-day Festival This position requires an extended orientation Youth Ambassador Program Looking for a way to develop your skills as a young leader in your community? Want to make new friends and build a great résumé at the same time? Then the Youth Ambassador Program is for you!
The Festival’s Youth Ambassador Program is designed for youth ages 12 to 18. Youth Ambassador are the ‘first-face’ of the Festival, greeting kids as they arrive on-site, providing information to teachers and parents at our Info Booths, and warming up audiences at our Feature Performances. This position is great for youth who like to help out and are comfy speaking to both kids and the public. Youth Ambassadors are guided by the Ambassador Captains and are required to attend an extended orientation, so they are well prepared to answer questions from the public.
Youth Ambassador Responsibilities:
Meet and greet buses as they arrive at the Festival site Introduce artists for all the Festival Feature Performances Serve as Information Guides Distribute sponsor products or assist with designated sponsor promotions throughout the Festival site Provide leadership support in other areas of the Festival where required. This position requires a minimum commitment of 5 weekday hours during the four-day Festival This position requires an extended orientation Feature Performance Venue Usher Want to ensure a spectacular and safe experience at our Feature Performances, while sneaking a peek at the shows? Then Venue Usher is for you.
With a Front of House Manager to guide you, venue ushers welcome schools into our Feature Performance Venues (aka, the shows) and make sure everyone is ready to go at show time. Previous ushering experience is an asset in this role!
Venue Usher Responsibilities:
Help classes and families find their seats in our performance venues Help make sure venues are safe and venue rules are followed Green Team Want to spend the Festival outside, enjoying the atmosphere and keeping the site sparkling clean? Then Green Team is for you!
With the Green Team Captain to guide you, Green Team members keep the site free of garbage and the picnic tables tidy. 40,000 kids can make a mess, so we really need your help on this one!
Green Team Responsibilities:
Pick up garbage around the site Clean off picnic tables Hospitality Want to keep your fellow volunteers happy and fuelled for the day? Then hospitality is for you!
Hospitality volunteers work alongside our Hospitality Coordinators to feed the entire Festival Team; including volunteers, staff and artists. They make sure there are healthy snacks and hearty lunches to get us all through the day.
Hospitality Team Responsibilities:
Prepare a light breakfast, lunch and snacks for volunteers and artists Keep Volunteer Headquarters clean and quickly attend to any spills and messes Serve and oversee the lunch rush to ensure everyone is fed and happy Volunteer Registration Want to get to know your fellow volunteers and help get them started for the day? Then volunteer registration is for you!
Working alongside our Volunteer Coordinators, if you are working volunteer registration, you’ll be checking in volunteers, making sure they get their name tags and any other gear their role needs for the day.
Volunteer Registration Team Responsibilities:
Greet volunteers Hand out name tags, T-shirts, binders and other gear Assure everything is handed back at the end of the day ACTIVITY Assistant Want to help kids get creative in one of our many activities? Then Activity Assistant is for you!
Activity Assistants work alongside Team Leaders and Activity Facilitators to deliver the fun, exciting, artsy activities the Children’s Festival is known for. This is a great opportunity to see the Festival through a child’s eyes!
Activity Assistants Responsibilities:
