Jason and the Argonauts

The Greek legend of Jason, hero and leader of the Argonauts, comes to life with author and playwright Marty Chan, in a captivating multimedia presentation guaranteed to keep kids on the edge of their seats.

In a quest to find the Golden Fleece, adventurers run a gauntlet of swinging boulders, retrieve dragon teeth from a mysterious cave, and outwit a trap set by mythical creatures.

Trad'badour

With lightning-fast fiddling, this Alberta duo recreates the jumpin’ kitchen parties of yore for the tap-happy feet of youngsters. Trad’badour fuses the rich traditions of Acadian culture with the lyrical stylings of a troubadour to entertain and educate with their own unique blend of authentic Acadian storytelling and musical fire.

Viking Legend of the Runes

Well-known for being fierce masters of the unexplored sea, Vikings were also lawmakers, poets, painters, craftsmen and carvers. Led by members of Odin’s Ravens: Viking Age Living History, kids will learn about mysterious and magical symbols known as runes and create their own runic alphabet wooden pendant, Viking-style!

Grandma Willow

ATCO Indigenous Activities — Birch Bark Canoes

The birch bark canoe of the Aboriginal Peoples was a masterful invention built entirely from nature. An intersection of art and science, this critical means of transportation carried explorers to otherwise inaccessible landscapes and helped shape the Canada we know and love today. Children will marvel in history as they create their own portable foam boats to try out at home!

Renowned for the beautiful pieces they created, the Métis people of St. Albert became known as “The Flower Beadwork People.” Children will learn what makes Métis beadwork different from other artwork, hear traditional stories such as how flowers came to be on Earth, and make their very own flower bead bracelet.

Timbits Visual Arts Tent: Magpie Upcycle Art

Mosaic artists are well-known for their tendency to be “magpies” – attracted to lush, shiny and colourful baubles, stone, glass, tile or other materials just waiting to be cut, chopped or shaped into their work. Also notorious for creating upcycle art, kids will follow their lead and use re-purposed CD cases and a wild assortment of buttons, beads and all manner of other mini mosaic making materials to create their very own masterpiece.

Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Workshop

Let’s Kolomeyka!  So you think you can dance . . . Ukrainian? Cheremosh School of Dance instructors will guide you through demonstrations of colourful regional costumes and the evolution of Ukrainian-Canadian dance including group participation workshops –  at the end of which each participant will be able showcase their newly learned dance skills and steps by dancing the ‘Kolomeyka.’
