Ask a Local: St. Albert Gems
For the inside scoop on what to see and do in St. Albert, there’s no one better to ask than our locals and community champions. Whether you’re after the best coffee spot, the best taco joint, or events happening in town, the locals are always eager to share their favourite things to do in St. Albert.
Heidi is the co-owner of Leading Edge Physiotherapy with her husband Grant. She loves to be active with her two daughters and is a golf and yoga enthusiast. Heidi is also the founder of Cash Mob St. Albert, a shop local initiative she started in 2012. She is passionate about supporting local businesses. We asked Heidi what she likes to do for fun in St. Albert.
What is something about St. Albert that most people don’t know?
For people that don’t live within St. Albert, they may associate St. Albert with the Farmers Market, which is great, but there are so many others great shops and restaurants. St. Albert is a warm and welcoming community.

Favourite Outdoor Activity in St. Albert?
Our family loves to bike and run. We participate in and organize the Run Wild race and donate the proceeds from the race to support local charities. The race routes are wonderful and go through St. Albert's beautiful trail system.
Iconic St. Albert places or snapshots to take?
Favourite Place to Relax?
I walk around the Enjoy Centre. My daughters call it the “Glass Castle”. It’s so bright and welcoming inside. We look at all the plants, grab lunch and check out Evoolution (olive oils and balsamic vinegars), and The Makers Keep. They also have a Spa (Wellness Within). Walking around the Enjoy Centre on a Saturday, for relaxation and leisure, kind of feels like you’ve had a little holiday.
Favourite restaurant and what do you order for lunch?
KB and Co. I love their PB Power smoothie and Falafel Mezze salad. Their food is so tasty you don’t even realize how healthy you are being!
Favourite place for drinks and appies?
We like going to Confections Cake Co dessert bar downtown. The owners are amazing. The place has an Art gallery feel, with local art displayed on the walls. Or Cerdo Tacos & Tequila. It’s nice to walk to Cerdos for nachos and drinks after we finish the Runwild event near Lions Park.
Favourite date night spot?
There are so many great spots! We like Luisa Risto, an Italian option for dinner and then head over to Confections Cake Co for dessert and wine. Nineteen is a great restaurant, their tuna twists are divine. So many options in St. Albert for date night!
Top 3 boutiques or shops in St. Albert?
- Sweet Boutique – I recommend this store to everyone. They have racks of great clothes and fabulous purses, fun jewelry and masks. I follow them on Facebook to see what I might like from watching their Facebook Live videos.
- Saltwater Bay Boutique – I come here for gifts. It has reasonably priced little makeup pouches, jewelry, notebooks and pillows, and many of the items are the Owner’s original art. They carry so many locally made or Canadian-made goods.
- Cloud 9 Pajamas – This store offers a luxurious product line for robes and pajamas. They will also gift wrap your purchase and donate the wrapping fee to charities. They are very charity and community-minded.
What is your favourite healthy food stop:
Hutch & Howl -They do cold press juice and fresh healthy foods. I often stop in for the power ball bites, power bowls and fresh-pressed juice.
Favourite hidden gem in St. Albert?
The Perron District downtown is so unique and has so many hidden gems. It’s easy to walk around and find bookstores, pajama stores, or a treat at Macarons & Goodies.
Outside of downtown, BellaMaas is one of my favorite stores! The owner is a great champion of so many charities and she supports other local businesses. Simone & Ivy on St. Albert Trail is a hidden treasure. You feel like you’re on Fifth Avenue in New York City. It is not what you expect when you think of a small-town home décor & gift store.
There is a lot of neat places like Corro Collective (a coworking space) where they have space for vendors and makers. You see a lot of cooperation in St. Albert for that kind of thing.
