Secondary Suites
The Land Use Bylaw enables the development of one secondary suite, garden or garage suite on most single-family lots in St. Albert, subject to meeting St. Albert's Land Use Bylaw requirements.
The safety of secondary suites is a priority. As such, the City has established a Development Permit process and Inspection Program to ensure that all forms of secondary suites meet the Land Use Bylaw and the current National Building Code Alberta Edition requirements, ultimately providing for safe occupancy by the homeowner and prospective tenants, as a legalized suite.
A secondary suite can provide homeowners with additional income that can help with mortgage payments, while providing much needed rental housing in the community. Secondary suites are also an effective housing solution for aging parents, or other family members.
