Surface Drainage Bylaw

Surface drainage concerns are very common in mature neighbourhoods due to settlement and landscaping changes made over time.  Even with newer lots, backfill material will settle for several years after construction is complete. Repairing settlement areas is considered regular home maintenance. Homeowners must ensure they protect their property by maintaining positive grading, which slopes away from all building foundations and along property lines to an approved surface drainage facility, such as a drainage swale, culvert, or catch basin.
