Curbside Large Item Pick Up

The “Curbside Large Item Pick Up” program is a week-long event, occurring from Monday, September 12th to Friday, September 16th, 2016. This event will provide residents an opportunity to dispose of large household items directly at their curbs.

PLEASE NOTE: If your collection day is scheduled for Friday, September 16, please leave material out curbside until collected. Due to volume, collections will continue until Saturday, September 17.

Important Program Information

  • Maximum of two (2) large items per house (no exceptions)
  • Only those items deemed ‘acceptable’ will be collected for disposal. Please see list of ‘acceptable’ and ‘unacceptable’ below
  • Two additional electronic items will also be accepted through a partnership with Alberta Recycling Management Authority and GEEP Electronic Recycling.
  • Items such as TVs and stereos are acceptable; however, residents are advised against placing electronics at the curb that could contain sensitive material, such as computers and tablets
  • All items must be less than six feet by three feet (1.8 metres x 0.9 metres) and weigh less than 200 lbs. (90 kg)
  • Waste tags are not required to dispose of large items.
  • This service is only available to those households who currently receive waste collections services from the City of St. Albert. If you have a brown waste cart provided by the City, this service is available to you
  • This event is funded entirely from the solid waste utility. Those households that do not receive this service are not billed for it
  • If you or your area is not eligible for this service, please note that the City is hosting a Large Item Drop-off Event September 24th at the City’s Public Works Facility

How to Place Large Items for Disposal

During the large item pick up week residents can leave large items at the curbside by 7:00 a.m. on the regular waste (garbage and/or organics and recycling) collection day in their area. Remember to provide enough space between your carts and the large items for collection (minimum 1-meter distance in all directions).

Items may be collected by different trucks at different times. Due to the expected volume, the collection of large items may occur over several days. Please leave all material out during the week of September 12th – 16th until collected.

The collection contractor will be photographing the collection material for auditing purposes as they collect.

  • Put a note on common items (basketball and hockey nets, lawn mowers, wheel barrows, rain barrels, bicycles etc.) to help identify it as being out for pick up
  • Please help the collection staff by deconstructing, compressing and compacting all large items as best as possible. Consider collection staff’s safety when preparing large items for collection (including watching for sharps and weight of items)

If you have a question or concern about what items will be considered acceptable, please email prior to the event start date.
