Compost Depot

The City of St. Albert Compost Depot will be closed for the winter season, starting at the end of October. It will reopen in April 2017. 

Note: Items such as garden waste, leaves and grass clippings can be put in your green organic cart  as part of the curbside organics program.

Between April and October, the City of St. Albert operates a compost depot which serves as a transfer station for residents to drop off yard waste in a convenient and environmentally friendly way. Please abide by all signage and dispose of plastics and other inorganic material at the provided waste receptacles. The Compost Depot is open to residents of St. Albert only, proof of residency may be required. Non-residents and commercial vehicles will be turned away by onsite staff.


The City of St. Albert's Compost Depot is located three kilometers west of St. Albert Trail on Villeneuve Road

Hours of Operation

Open daily from April through October between 7:30 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.

Closed from November through March.

Accepted Items

The Compost Depot accepts the following material:

All yard waste Leaves, hay, straw
Branches Shrubs
Diseased branches/trees Sod
Flowers Soil
Grass clippings Wood chips

Items NOT accepted

The Compost Depot does NOT accept he following material:

Vegetable and fruit scraps Animal feces
Fish, poultry, bones Treated or preserved wood
Fats, greases or oils Ashes, charcoal
Coffee grounds, tea bags , bread scraps Non-organic materials(such as plastic bags)
Dairy products
