  • Maximum of two (2) large items per house (no exceptions)
  • Only those items deemed ‘acceptable’ will be collected for disposal. Please see list of ‘acceptable’ and ‘unacceptable’ below
  • Two additional electronic items will also be accepted through a partnership with Alberta Recycling Management Authority and GEEP Electronic Recycling
  • Items such as TVs and stereos are acceptable; however, residents are advised against placing electronics at the curb that could contain sensitive information, such as computers and tablets
  • All items must be less than six feet by three feet (1.8 metres x 0.9 metres) and weigh less than 200 lbs (90 kg) unless deemed 'acceptable' (e.g. mattress)
  • "Extra garbage bag" tags are not required to dispose of large items
  • This service is only available to those households who currently receive Brown Garbage Cart service provided by the City. This event is funded entirely from the Solid Waste Utility Rates. Those households that do not receive this service are not billed it.
  • If your household is not eligible for this event, see our "Large Item Drop-Off Event" or The City of Edmonton's Eco Stations and Edmonton Waste Management Centre also accepts residental waste for disposal. For more information about acceptable items and fees, please visit the City of Edmonton's Waste Drop-off Facilities page.

How to Place Large Items for Disposal

  • Leave the large items at the curbside by 7:00 a.m. on your Brown Garbage Cart collection day
  • Remember to provide enough space between your Carts/Bags, and the large items for collection. Minimum of one (1) meter (three feet) distance from all obstacles. Generally, an arm's length is a good distance marker
  • Items may be collected by different trucks at different times. Due to the expected volume, the collection of large items may occur over several days. Please leave all material out during the event until collected
  • The collection contractor will be photographing the collection material for auditing purposes as they collect
