Water Demand Measures
The City, at any time throughout the year, can experience operational limitations affecting the supply of water in its water reservoirs. This can be during periods of high regional water demand, because of infrastructure challenges such as system failures or repairs, a reduction in water supply from EPCOR, or due to excessive demand within St. Albert.
During periods of dry weather, the City experiences higher than normal water use, which starts to reduce water levels in the City’s three reservoirs that store water for community use and fire protection.
If there is sufficient rain, outdoor water use lessens, and the reservoirs return to normal levels. However, if there is little or no rain, reservoir levels continue to drop and water conservation efforts are put in place.
The City of St. Albert is part of a Regional Water Customers Group of municipalities and Municipal Water Commissions that receive their water from EPCOR, that work together to implement specific actions that member municipalities will need to take when Water Demand Management Measures are enacted.
Water Demand Management Measures are enacted by the Regional Water Customers Group for their collective water conservation needs or individually, by a local operational limitation. These measures are enacted to limit water use and ensure sufficient water is available for essential use and for firefighting efforts. When Water Demand Management Measures are enacted, it is extremely important for everyone to do their part. Topics in this section
