Water Demand Management Measure B
Water Demand Management Measure B is typically enacted when reservoirs are forecast to be below 30 per cent of available volume.
As a result, there are mandatory water restrictions on non-essential potable water use for all municipal operations.
Residents and businesses, particularly those using large volumes of water, are also asked to limit water use.
What You Can Do
Residents can help conserve water by doing the following:
- Use water from rain barrels until they are empty, before using municipal water for outdoor watering.
- Reduce water use, particularly during peak demand periods: 6 to 9 a.m. and 6 to 9 p.m.
- Turn the water off while brushing your teeth.
- Make sure that washing machines and dishwashers are full before using.
- Suspend filling Jacuzzis or hot tubs.
- Ensure you have a pitcher of water in the refrigerator for drinking, so you won’t have to let the water run to get cold water.
- Suspend washing vehicles and watering your lawn.
Impact on City Programs and Services
The City will discontinue all non-essential activities involving potable water use, including:
- Hydrant flushing
- Non-emergency sewer flushing
- Street sweeping
- Dust abatement
- Pool filling
- Construction water
- Park watering (trees, grass, plants and flowers, except for trees, grass, plants or flowers within first year of planting)
- Establishing indoor and outdoor ice surfaces (excluding ice maintenance)
- Firefighter training
- Bulk water stations
- Washing City vehicles (including buses)
- Closing Versailles Park Splash Pad (exception: the Woodlands Water Play Park operates on a recirculating water system and as such, no additional water usage is needed to keep the park in operation during this, or subsequent conditions)
