Leaders in Training (LIT)

Take on a leadership role

Come and participate in the Leaders in Training (LIT) program where you will have the opportunity to work with children and gain valuable leadership skills in a recreation setting. Our LIT program gives youth ages 13-17 (or 12 year olds that have completed grade 7) a chance to discover the benefits of taking on a leadership role while meeting new friends and having fun in our summer camps. This experience will be an awesome addition to your resume as you start thinking about your future endeavors.

How the program works

Step #1

Register your youth online in one of the LIT training sessions. There are three levels: Level one is for youth new to the program. Level two is for returning youth who have been part of our program for one year. Level three is for returning youth who have been part of our program for two years or more.

Step #2

Each applicant will be contacted in late May or early June by a summer coordinator to set up a placement interview. Each LIT will bring their resume (if they have one) and availability to a placement interview where they will get a chance to meet the summer coordinators. Here they will get a better understanding of what will be expected of them and which camps would be the best fit. Those who complete the placement interview and can commit to a minimum of 35 consecutive hours of program (one full week of camp) will be placed with our fantastic summer staff in some of the coolest and most fun summer programs around.

Step #3

Leaders in Training will go through one full day of training with our summer coordinators prior to their program placement. Trainings are divided into three different levels. In level one (new LIT’s) participants will learn new games, crafts, activities, and leadership skills that they can practice in camp, as well as a basic understanding of what they can expect during the summer. In level two (returning LIT’s who have been a part of the program for one year), participants will expand on that knowledge and learn practical tools to expand on the leadership skills they have gained from previous summers. In level three (returning LIT's who have been a part of the program for two years or more), participants will learn advanced leadership skills and begin to apply their learnings to resume building and preparation for future job applications. For all trainings make sure the participants dress to be active both indoors and outdoors.

Step #4

Leaders in Training will complete a minimum of 35 hours/one week of camp, and upon completing the time requirement will receive a letter of reference as well as a certificate. All LIT's will be given mid- and end-week feedback to help promote their leadership growth.

If you do not hear from the summer coordinator to set up an interview at least one week prior to training or have any questions about which training to register in, please call a member of our staff at 780-418-6088.

Come one, come all and join us in the Leaders in Training program for a fun and exciting adventure this summer!
