Coal Mine Park - Now Open!

On September 9, 2020, the City of St. Albert officially opened another beautiful natural area for residents to enjoy. Mayor Cathy Heron cut the ribbon at Coal Mine Park in front of a small audience that included city staff and key stakeholders in the park development.

This unique City amenity features a pollinator garden and natural forested area, so visitors can appreciate an immersive nature experience right in the middle of an urban area.

The pollinator garden will provide a valuable habitat for bees and other pollinators like beetles and hummingbirds. The park also acts as a stepping stone forest, as it provides food and a safe travel corridor for various species of wildlife.

The park is a significant natural area and was designed with the lowest environmental impact. Other than the packed gravel trail, some benches and interpretative signage, the forest has been left largely in its natural state.

St. Albert residents have a special appreciation for natural areas and recognize the importance of protecting our natural environment.Coal Mine Park will provide current residents with a unique opportunity to connect with nature and will preserve the area so residents can continue to enjoy this natural area in the midst of our City for years to come.

Coal Mine Park is located in Erin Ridge North at the corner of Everitt Drive N and Ebony Way. Street parking is available near the entrance to the park.
