Commemorative Bench and Tree Program Details

The City is conducting a program review of the Commemorative Bench and Tree Program. During this time no new applications will be processed.  All applications in progress will continue and be installed as planned.

NOTE: This program is to commemorate memories for those who have passed on and does not include scattering of ashes, or any other burial services. Please visit the City Cemetery website City Cemetery / City of St. Albert (stalbert.ca) for more information on final resting places.

Fees

  • The fee is $1,750, and it is a GST exempt, one-time program fee
  • There are no ongoing fees
  • It is eligible for the issue of a tax receipt

NOTE: Only City-installed commemorative items will be allowed in the parks. Please refrain from placing additional items such as flowers and personal items at a commemorative site

Bench Details

In keeping with the City of St. Albert’s park and open space maintenance requirements and landscape design standards, the availability of commemorative bench options is limited to existing benches only. New bench locations will become available as benches are installed with new projects. The plaque is a horizontal bronze plate that is affixed to the backrest of the designated bench.

  • Bench plaques will be installed between May and September

NOTE: Metal benches will feature a smaller plaque size than the more common wooden or composite bench.

Tree Details

A new or existing stand-alone ornamental tree situated within a park. Trees planted on boulevards or existing forest or natural areas are not part of the program. The tree species selection and location is at the discretion of the City Arborist. The tree plaque is a horizontal bronze plate that is mounted on an upright pedestal placed approximately 3 feet above the ground, at the border of the existing tree well.

  • Trees will be planted between June and September

Location Holds

Holding a location is not permitted. All program requests will be addressed on a first-come, first-serve basis.
