Commemorative Bench Program

March 14, 2018: Program revision currently in progress. See below for details.

The Commemorative Bench Program, which has existed in the City of St. Albert since 1999, is currently being updated to reflect a more streamlined service delivery and administration of the program. The program will continue to emphasize a commemorative memoriam element for people with a connection to the City of St. Albert.

In the past, this program has offered citizens the opportunity to place a plaque on park benches throughout the City. Moving forward, plaque placement opportunities will be considered as per approved landscape design standards and maintenance efficiencies. Bench plaques will still be included as part of this program; however, efforts are underway to explore additional options (i.e: commemorative tree plaques) to be included in this program due to the limited number of existing available bench locations.

The final details and costing of these options have not yet been finalized, but they will be available soon. The new program launch is scheduled to begin June 1, 2018. Due to high demand, there were several requests carried forward in 2017. These requests will be given priority attention as the 2018 program is rolled out.
