Canada Day 2019

CANCELLATION NOTICE: Due to extreme weather conditions, the Canada Day activities at Riel Recreation Park from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. have been cancelled. We apologize for any inconvenience.

St. Albert Celebrates Canada Day presented by True North Heating and Cooling is a time for family and friends to come together and celebrate our great country! Come dressed in red and white and join the St. Albert community for fun that lasts all day. City parks, facilities, and historical sites will see a variety of events, allowing residents of all ages and interests to celebrate this historic anniversary.

All the events are located along or near the Red Willow Trail System, so residents can bike or walk to the event if they would like to take advantage of our wonderful trail system! Event goers can enjoy activities, games, food, and more from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. at Riel Recreation Park; parking is available on site or the public can use Park and Ride for no cost. In the evening, a concert at St. Albert Place from 7-10:30 p.m. will fill downtown St. Albert with melodies that will have people dancing and singing. The celebrations will end with the always popular fireworks display presented by the Kinsmen Club of St. Albert, which will rocket off from Mission Park at 11 p.m. See below for full schedule details.

Closure Notice: The Rotary Park parking lot and boat dock will be closed to the public on July 1.

Mariel Buckley

This Calgary native songwriter has performed her poetic and honest music to audiences at the Edmonton Folk Festival, Canmore Folk Festival and Vancouver Folk Festival. Her music can be described as gritty and truthful, which has earned her respect in the Alberta roots music community. Mariel is an artist truly coming into her own and ready to take on the world!

Funkford and Sons

Hailing from Edmonton, AB, this premier funk band will be gracing the stage with tributes to funk’s greatest and grooviest artists like Parliament, Rick James, Sly, the Commodores and Chaka Khan. Their carefully curated repertoire of funk soul is an enjoyable show for all ages to appreciate the legendary music of this genre.

9:15 - 10:30 p.m.

Tragically Hip Celebration “Yer Favourites”

This headlining act is purely a celebration of Canada’s beloved band; The Tragically Hip. Five friends who share a mutual love for this group have gotten together to share Gord Downie’s and The Hip’s incredible catalogue of music, songs and history! Band members include Jesse Dee, Geoff O’Brien, Nigel Gale, Kyle Mosiuk, and Joe Nolan, who are all Edmonton and area locals.

A number of partnering groups will be hosting their own Canada Day celebrations around St. Albert, including:

    Strawberry tea, live entertainment by
    The Jan Baker Trio. Free plant for kids.

  • Father Lacombe Chapel
    Historic tours, scavenger hunt, and

  • St. Albert Grain Elevator Park
    Tours, children’s crafts and games,
    snacks, music and more!
    4 Meadowview Drive • Noon – 4 p.m.
  • Little White School House
    Have a look inside the two-room
    schoolhouse, cookie decorating and
    family activities.
    2 Madonna Drive • Noon – 4 p.m.
  • Juneau House
    Tea, bannock, and tours.

    9 Mission Avenue • Noon – 4 p.m.

Shuttle Service

St. Albert Transit will be providing a NO COST shuttle service from 10:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. from Village Transit Station to the Canada Day festivities around St. Albert.

What to Bring

To get the most out of your Canada Day, please consider bringing the following: lawn chair, sunscreen, water bottle, blanket (to sit on the grass), umbrella, hat, and comfortable walking shoes.
