What are the City of St. Albert sports fields?
The City of St. Albert sports fields include soccer fields, baseball diamonds, and open green spaces. This does not include fields maintained by local sports associations such as the St. Albert Soccer Association (Riel Fields), St. Albert Minor Baseball Association (SAMBA), and the Meadowview Baseball Diamonds.
How is it determined if a field is closed?
Field closures are based on participant safety and field moisture. Heavy rains or prolonged moisture may close fields as they become slippery and unsafe for participants and may damage the turf. Other weather conditions such as temperature and wind are at the discretion of the coaches/participants and/or the local sports association's guidelines for play. The City of St. Albert considers the first week of May as their seasonal opening.
When is the decision made to close the fields?
Weather changes are monitored throughout the day as the weather conditions change. The website and information line (780-459-1568) will be updated by 4:00 pm, Monday-Friday only if weather conditions change.
